Judge Curtis Found Anna Guilty Yesterday

Judge Curtis ruled that the Ventura Police officers’ conflicting testimony about Anna raising the knife, a third-party witness’ testimony that Anna did not raise the knife, and rookie officer Rupp’s gross violation of departmental policy which caused the confrontation were not sufficient to cause reasonable doubt in his mind.



Ventura County Star - Judge finds foster girl guilty in assault on officer

Dismissing defense claims of a police cover-up, a judge ruled Monday that 14-year-old Anna Guo assaulted a peace officer and that the officer was justified in shooting the girl.

But Knupp said the girl was holding the knife at her side during the seconds he watched her, and that he never saw her raise it. When he first saw her, Knupp testified, she was pointing the knife’s blade backward.

Knupp’s account differs from that of Officer Kristen Rupp, who last week testified she had no choice but to shoot when the girl raised the knife and rushed her.

On Thursday, he called Ventura Police Officer Greg Knupp to the stand and questioned him about the way Anna was holding the knife. Knupp testified Anna was flailing her arms but did not raise the knife above her shoulder.
